First
let me welcome you to my website and allow me to introduce myself.
My name is Daryl Griffith and I was born in Chatham, Ontario in
1976. My interest in instrument making began with guitars while in
high school. That interest in guitar making followed me to college
where it blossomed into violin making. During my second year of
studying Mechanical Engineering I began work on my first violin.
I quickly came to realize that
engineering wasn’t the path that I was to follow and after my second
year I decided to leave college to pursue a career in violin making.
I was very fortunate when after showing my partly completed violin
to renowned violinmaker Raymond Schryer he agreed to take me on as
his apprentice. I spent three years in a formal apprenticeship
studying all aspects of violin making under Mr. Schryer, followed by
an additional year where I worked as his assistant. In 2003 I moved
to nearby Sault Ste. Marie and began working on my own, making and
repairing instruments. |
